Reedahm Update April 13th

Start of Summer Season American Tournament
A big well done to all those that took part in the American Tournament last Saturday and a huge thanks to all those who helped out with the organisation of the competition and the teas on the day.

Reedham Quiz
Around 50 members gathered together for a Quiz Night last Friday which had been postponed due to bad weather a few weeks ago.  Big thanks go to David Newman and Richard Bailey, our quiz masters and to Alice Newman who kept the team scores. A huge thanks too to all those who helped with setting up the room, preparing food, manning the bar and in the clear up afterwards. Thank you to all those members and friends who came along to support the event and make the evening a great success.  The winning team was Ann Jones team with 111.5 points. which might well be their third year’s success in a row!
Glenn Martin’s Funeral (a message from Beryl)
Another mention that Glenn’s funeral will take place at 11 am on Tuesday 17th April at St.Peter’s Parish Church, Limpsfield High Street, RH8 0DR and afterwards at Hatchetts, Westerham Road, RH8 0SW for light refreshments.

Everyone is welcome but it would help us very much with the planning of the number of service sheets  and with the catering if you could let us know if you would like to attend. Please e-mail berylmartin3@hotmail.com

In the meantime very many thanks to all of you for your kind messages, letters and cards. They are very much appreciated. Any donations should be made payable to Parkinson’s UK and have Glenn’s name on the back and sent to Alex Jones, 92 Station Road East, Oxted, RH8 0QA.

Summer Competitions
The closing date for entry to the Senior Summer Competitions is 15th April. Any last minute entries should be emailed to Steve Cooksley at stevencooksley@aol.com
Summer Season
A final reminder that the Summer season is well underway. This means that Monday and Thursday evening sessions are now Team Match Practice nights and Summer Senior sessions begin at 1400hrs on Saturdays, rather than at 1300hrs.

RPSC Wimbledon Ticket Draw (Sunday 22 April 2018 at 12 noon in the clubhouse)
Another reminder that we have been awarded more pairs of tickets for Wimbledon from the Ballot this year than last year which is great so thank you once again. If you opted in you are eligible to be entered into the draw being held on Sunday 22 April 2018.  If you would prefer not be included in the draw just let Ann Fletcher know via email to fletcherak@hotmail.co.uk and she will remove your name.
A list of the tickets we have been awarded is on display in the clubhouse together with the ballot rules issued by the LTA.  If you are thinking of coming to the ballot it is worth spending some time considering your availability over the Wimbledon fortnight before the draw takes place.  Tickets are drawn in the order of Centre Court, Court One, Court Two and then Court Three.  If your name is drawn you are able to select any pair of tickets from those tickets remaining in the draw.  A list of reserves will also be drawn.  If any member is not able to use the tickets they have drawn they are offered to the person at the top of the reserve list.  Any member is only offered one pair of tickets.

Reedham News (Fake news!)
It was reported in the last Update  (April Fool’s Day) that Steve’Pie-eater’ Edwards had invested heavily recently in a 1970’s All Blacks tracksuit. That was true, but not the bit about it being debonair! Sadly he has not decided to spurn his double-stringed Blackburne racket and return to the more conventional and definitely legal one-stringed regular tennis racket as reported. Also the reports of  Graham ‘Veteran Singles winner four years in a row but not this year!’ Granger drinking an orange juice rather than his customary real ale beer were discovered not to be true. Brewery shares on the FTSE rose on the announcement. In addition Graham was heard talking morosely about Brexit so one can only assume there will be no new career as a motivational speaker!

Have a great rest of the week,

Roger.
